Progress on my son's '73 RR look-alike (SSP) (UPDATED 2/9)

Post by Hotwheelsjr » Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:31 am

Pulled the '73 SSP (RR look-alike) out of the garage this morning and snapped a few shots. It's coming...motor will probably be in within the next 2-3 weeks. I have all the stripes and birds for it also...just haven't gotten them all on yet. Interior will be within the next 4-6 weeks too. Hope to have it running by December. Too much to do and not enough time... :(

Are you going to paint the hood inserts body color and finish the stripe or leave them all black? For some reason, the all black looks less busy and really makes the hood "pop", so I wouldn't blame you if you left it that way. I have body-colored scoops with the stripe continuation and it looks kind of busy with the stripes and gaps between scoop and body. The continuity that they were going for isn't really there, if you know what I mean. The black seems to hide all this. Just rambling...

I'm leaving the scoops black...I have the continuation stripes, but I like it this way. I am thinking of painting the inserts in the scoops body color though...I think that would look pretty tight. I'm all about being different, so this is my little touch of "different" for now.

I still need some under-hood pics if anyone would be so kind!!

THANKS!!

The rubber inner fender cover is repop -- I bought it off eBay for like $20 -- it even came with all of the clips. :D

I totally understand what you're talking about with the red pinstripes -- GREAT idea!

Lastly -- all I did to the grille was shoot it with satin black rattle can Duplicolor and hand-painted the silver on the horizontal pieces. Other than that, the signal lights are mint.

Thanks again for the compliments. I just received 3 boxes of parts from Summit, today. They're meant to be X-mas presents for my son, but man, it's going to be tough not to go home (I'm at work, right now) and rip into them...LOL!!

It really looks great! I'm jealous of your progress. It seems like an eternity since I had time to turn a wrench on my Road Runner.

Looks Great, My question is did you put the engine and trans together and then install it one shot?
