FINALLY!!

'73 SSP, FE5 (Rally Red), 400/727/8.75 (3.23 SG), bucket/buddy interior, floor shift column, etc... It's going to get black RR stripes within the next couple of weeks (already have them, just going to be a while until I get them on...). Cloud 9 doesn't express how high I've been all afternoon...

Rick (71autoxr) helped me get it home...

I stand corrected -- a while back there was a thread on Moparts about what color FE5 really was...red or orange. I found out today that it really depends on which way the light hits it, as seen in this pic...

Get a few looks hauling that thing down the road did ya? :-)

My first Runner was a 74, same color. It did change from red to orange with different light. I thought it was a cool characteristic, sort of an early "chameleon" in a sense. The day I picked it up from the body shop I drove it home with Thrush header mufflers, and no other exhaust yet. Man, it was loud. I was lucky not to pass any cops. I brought an entire BBQ to a halt in one yard I cruised past, lol.

Can't wait to see her finished dude!

Nice job!! My 71 SSP is FE5....can I ask what type of paint you used? Brand wise. Mine looks orange under direct light. One night at the gas station, a drunk told me he loved my ORANGE car, as the others at the station only saw RED...

Thanks all!!

In response to the quote above -- I don't even know!! I had Maaco shoot it and I didn't even ask them what brand they use...sorry.

I painted the scoop inserts semi-gloss black and installed them yesterday...WOW!! It's going to look bad-ass with black scoop inserts and the black stripe kit!! I also painted the tail light bezels semi-gloss black. The grill needs to be painted also...it's going black with silver on the horizontal lines through the center. :D It may get a 70 or 71 repop wing some day also...in black. I like to break up the body color where I can.

Did Maaco do any body work? How much did they charge for the paint job (if I may ask)?

No body work -- I did all the prep, minus completely shooting it with primer.

They shot it with base coat/clear coat (Signature Series, normally $1400) for $850. :D

How much time did it take for you to prep the car? Did you have it media blasted? I wish I had more knowledge in the prepping process of painting a car but the guy I will have paint it will let me be a "helper" when I bring my car to him. I will have the car completely disassembled for the autobody work to begin.

 I took two years... In reality, it probably was a couple of months worth of blocking, sanding, filling, blocking sanding, filling, etc... The car originally came out of south-eastern UT, so it's a high-desert car with ZERO rust. The prepping I did entailed filling in scratches and small dings and making them invisible. I did not strip the car to bare metal -- most of the car had it's original paint still oni t and it was still very nice. I bought the car from 'moparmarks', a member on here -- he can attest to how nice the body was/is... :D
