Meat Hook

I'm starting to remember one of the few negative aspects of owning a Mopar. This was a malady that affected me years ago when I owned several Mopars, and now that I've resumed ownership of such animals....it's all coming back. Yes, I'm talking about the hood latch, which I've dubbed "The Mopar Meat Hook". I've already whacked the back of my head several times, and the ol' cranium is starting to feel a little sore. One can almost imagine (if the impact were a little greater) being impaled through the back of the head and dangling from the hook like a 39 year old side of beef. I wonder if Chrysler technician's heads were scarred from years of being beaten about the head by this merciless device. Yesterday I lost a water pump belt, and while looking for it my friend was introduced to The Mopar Meat Hook. Sorry buddy!

I'm seriously considering creating a soft little "latch condom", to be installed whenever the hood is open. Maybe I can sell the idea to Year One!!

Oh man can I relate! I've owned old Mopes my whole life and can't BEGIN to tell you how many times I'm gouged my head on those things. And now that I'm shaving my head, it seems like the bare head has just become a magnet for stuff to gouge my skull on!

Put me down for an order of about 5 or so!

Amen to that. In the 80's when I had my last set of cars, I had a lot more hair too (the ol' mullet, I'm sorry to say). I now share your lack of hair, and it does seem to hurt more without something between me and the meathook.

That is one great thing about the T/As and AARs, no hook.

For those of you with hooks, cut a hole in an old tennis ball and insert it over the hook when working on the car. It keeps the head bonks down to a slight thump with no bleeding involved.
