Got some more 71 questions
1) Do you have to change the K member to put a 383/400/440 in a small block K member?
2) What is needed to upgrade from a front drum brake car to discs?? Do I have to change the spindle and all?? Wilwood kit the best way to go maybe??
3) What all Mopars will have the correct power brake booster to fit a 71
4) Could you have ordered a 4 speed car with the buckets and buddy seat?? Or if you got the buddy seat were you required to have column shift??

1) A V8 is a V8, no difference in the small block and big block k-member (with the possible exception of the Hemi).
2) You'll have to switch out the spindles if you do the popular upgrade to later model A-body disc brakes. Otherwise, there are kits out there that bolt to your original spindles.
3) This one I don't know.
4) A buddy seat on a 4-speed car would most likely get you the long, "bench-seat" style shifter mounted on the front mount of the tranny, not like the short e-body style on bucket-seat cars mounted on the rear mount. FWIW, the 4-speed '71 GTX I had with buckets had the LONG bench-seat style shifter... It was an odd-ball.
Now, what I DON'T know for SURE is if you could actually get a 4-speed car with the buddy seat.
Maybe someone else will chime in with better answers.

try to find a 73-4 challenger, cuda, ( possibly the dart, or dustpan, disk brake car. They all have the big spindle that you need. I would think the booster would be the same.1carcrazyguy wrote:Okay so on question 3 ..... what all cars should I look for to find a complete disc brake set up for a 71 Satellite??
YES you could get a 4speed car with the buddy seat. HOWEVER- as Bruce pointed out- it uses the shift location that the bench seat cars used ( IE infront the cross member). Now if you want to use the console location IE behind the crossmember) you can do that- cuz thats what I did, but you need to locate the buddy seat bracket back just a smidge. My buddy seat isn't locked down so I just let it sit free for now. Functionally it works just fine, but both of my seats sit all the way back and the fron to the Bseat is even with the others.
If you want to take a look- go to www.cardomain.com and look for "road chicken" and scroll through the pictures. It'll give you an idea of how it looks.

Hi, you can use 1971-72 ebody, front spindles, 71-72 bbody, 2 or 4door, station wagon, are smaller diameter to 73-74 bbody are larger in diameter on the front spindles. The brake boosters are all the same from 71-74 ( I could be wrong but I'll double check.) and so are the master cylinders.

You can use 1971-72 b-body or e-body front spindles and rotors. Which are small diameter. You cannot use the rotors on a 1973-74 b-body setup, they won't fit. The 1973-74 has a large diameter spindle and the rotors If you need the setup you can use a '71-'72 2dr, 4dr or station wagon, power disc brake cars. B-bodies only. The same goes for 1973-74. You can use 2dr, 4dr or station wagon. If you really need them, I have a set of each.

The articles I'm sending will help clear things up further. When those arrive you'll know EXACTLY what parts you'll need to look for. The articles are pretty thorough and one was published in Mopar Action, the other was written by Richard Ehrenberg and I believe was published in Mopar Muscle.

Re: Got some more 71 questions
The orange car???? NO WAY, I will never change anything on that car. Except I do plan to use a different 383 built to 383 Magnum specs. I love that car SO much that I made myself a promise. Not to touch it until I can afford to have someone/some shop that restores Mopars for a living, resto it to better than new!!! I know that the car will never be worth what I will spend on it. But I don't see myself selling that car or my 73 Cuda. So since I could not force myself to mess with the orange Satellite I did the next best thing.......I bought another one!!! And I still plan to find either a 71 RR/GTX or, if I can find one, a 71 N code Satellite!!!Eric wrote: Is this for the 71 SSP? That car deserves to be restored to original!

Well lets see here. When I was born, I was brought home from the Hospital in a 71 Plymouth Satellite. In 1989-91 in high school I had a GY8 71 383 RoadRunner. In 2002 I decided I "wanted back in" to Mopars so I began looking for a 71 RoadRunner. Could not find what I wanted so I bought a few cars to hold me over. Now I have a 71 Dart Swinger, a 70 FJ5 Duster, a 73 Cuda, the Orange 71 Satellite, 1/2 of the 74 Charger (with my Dad owning the other 1/2) that is in the pic above, and now the Green 71 Satellite. So yes I am hooked a little!!
Also we just picked up a "Spirit of 76" Dodge truck that is a /6 with 4 speed in the floor. I have no idea why, but we did.
Current project..

Re: 71
Sorry about that- I should have clarified why I said use the 73/4 E and A body parts.1carcrazyguy wrote:71440 gtx wrote:Hi, you can use 1971-72 ebody, front spindles, 71-72 bbody, 2 or 4door, station wagon, are smaller diameter to 73-74 bbody are larger in diameter on the front spindles.Maybe I am reading that wrong...what???
The 71/2 small spindle units were used only those years- and the new disks to fit them cost @ $125 each... if you can find them. Where as- if you use the ones I stated the disks are $35-40, and you can upgrade to the C bodies larger disk set-up rather easily.
