Dangina - the build date is on the fender tag. 2nd row from the bottom, 4th group over.

RRSteve - That's a late 71 340 Runner - you just missed by 2 days. RRAddict's RR was built 709.

Only if you can find two cars that come from the same plant as your car that closely bracket your VIN.

That's fairly early...start of production for 71 B bodies was the first week of August 70

Like Eric said - 71 production started in Aug of 1970 - so your build date is roughly one month into the production year. The sequence number on your VIN should follow suit. They started with 100001 for the first car built that year - My car was built on Aug 26th with a sequence number of 1069xx - so given the trend of about 350 cars per day - and your car being built on Sep 2nd - the last 6 numbers in your vin should be somewheres close to 109000. Am I in the ballpark?

I based my guess on St. Louis production. With that low a number, your ride must be out of the Los Angeles plant.

The seventh digit in your VIN tells what plant your car was built at. E is for Los Angeles, G is for St. Louis, and R is for Ontario, Canada. I don't have any Los Angeles cars built in 72, 73, or 74 in my database, so they might be a 71 only for 2 Door Hardtop bodies. Since yours is a 72, then St. Louis or Windsor are the most likely build plants for you. The last six digits in the VIN are the build sequence, which started with number 100001 for most makes and models - there are exceptions. So, sequence 100020 would be the 20th car scheduled to be built at that plant. Hope that helps. Scott.

cool, my last six are 166644 according to the vin . you're right, city code turned out to be a type-o on my part. She is a St Louis car....don't try to decode when tired and had a couple of adult beverages I guess. lol
