You will also need the 3 72 grille brackets for the center section.dk2ar83 wrote:Will a 72 rr grille fit a 72 satellite?

Re: 72 grill
I looked at the diagrams in my FSM and it appears the grille on the Satellite attaches to the crossbar in front of the radiator frame, and the boxes that hold the headlights. The Road Runner grill attaches to the bumper itself. The two diagrams are labeled "Grille Attachment - Hardtop" and "Grille Attachment - Sedan. The "hardtop" grille is the Road Runner grille. If you go back in this thread I put some pictures that show all the parts for a Road Runner grille, right down to the screws and washers.dk2ar83 wrote:Will a 72 rr grille fit a 72 satellite?

Re: 72 grill
Both Satellite and Roadrunner Brackets attach to the Bumper on 2 door cars. The headlight brackets are the same for RR and Satellite. The 3 center brackets are different for RR and Satellite. Sometimes finding the brackets can be harder than the grilles because not everyone saves the brackets only the grilles. I have seen the 3 center brackets go for around 300.00 by themselves.

If I still had the grille in my real 72 RR I would reproduce them for those that actually need them. But the PO decided to take it and put it in a satellite

Re: 72 grill
The FSM is a little confusing as the diagram for the "hardtop" has the distinctive 3 piece Road Runner grille (4 if you count the honeycomb) and the "sedan" has the "egg crate" grille. I have a front bumper off a Satellite (vs Road Runner) in the attic, just never climbed up there to see if the grille attaching tabs are the same as my Road Runner's.Moparlar wrote:Both Satellite and Roadrunner Brackets attach to the Bumper on 2 door cars. I will add that I took a few hundred pictures when I took the grille off my car during the restoration process. Glad I did as there are a LOT of parts, bits, and pieces to it! Since I bought the car new and it had never been apart I had all of the original parts, intact, where they were as it came from the factory, and it was in good shape so I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for them. I did see the grill pieces and honeycomb on eBay (no brackets or hardware) several years back and it went for something like $2,000! Amazing!
Here's a link to a series of pictures I put on Photobucket when I put it all back together again.

Re: 72 grill
I am surprised that due to the rarity of that grille there hasn't been someone, someplace that as made repros. Unless there is an issue with doing that commercially unless you have Chrysler's permission.71ChallengerSE wrote:If I still had the grille in my real 72 RR I would reproduce them for those that actually need them. I wonder what that grill cost back in '72 if you had bought the parts, bits and pieces from a dealer?

Re: 72 grill
the rarity of the car is why they dont reproduce. wouldnt be enough demand to justify the cost.
72 satellite/rr clone blown 360 been in my family since new

Yeah that was kind of a rhetorical question. But hey! We can always dream.ffej wrote:the rarity of the car is why they dont reproduce. wouldnt be enough demand to justify the cost.
I wonder if there are any of them, gathering dust, on a parts department, somewhere? Unknown, forgotten, and lost?
I was fortunate, I had my car from day one. I have the "high speed curve" that was to to the mickey mouse tabs that Mopar had on the bottom of the center section to keep it flat behind the bumper. I have seen some that have been "modified" with all sorts of things to replace those and keep it "flat on the bumper". I say, naw....mine has been to 150 on I5 in California in 1973! That is when I think the factory tabs went "bye-bye"! Hoo Hah!

Man, the 72 RR grille is a piece of art. Taillights too, love them.

TO MOPARMIKE
Mike I am new this board and I am trying to help a friend. Above you mentioned you have a list or layout with all bolts, sizes etc of where the hardware goes on the grille. Is there anyway you could email me that so I can help my friend finish his project?

Here's a link to my Photobucket site where I put up a bunch of pictures I took when I reinstalled the grille in my '72 Road Runner. Shows all the original parts along with pictures of them installed. Might help you at least find what is needed. There are some really long screws that hold the plastic grill pieces (left, right, center) in place that are going to be really hard to find. Also the plastic buttons that are used to attach the "C" mounts (again, L, R, C) to the bumper itself.
I also did a narrative for some friends who had a '72 to help them get their's back together.

Mike, I know it has been awhile but would you also have the bolt size, length, loose washer etc. My buddy has nothing!
Re: 72 grill
Unfortunately no as they have all been installed on the car. I seem to remember a couple who own a '72 Road Runner that found the hardware somewhere. I'm on the road so don't have access to all my correspondence. When I get back I'll see if I can find any info from them.Centofanti wrote:Mike, I know it has been awhile but would you also have the bolt size, length, loose washer etc. My buddy has nothing!

Centofanti,
Hoover Auto Parts (rob1426) has a listing for a 72 roadrunner grill fastener set on Ebay right now. Don't know if it has everything but at least it's a place to start with a good picture. Obviously not cheap but I haven't seen the two piece plastic washers available anywhere else lately and the long screws are in it.
