Rear Spring Re-Locator kits?

Post by RICHIES ARMOR » Mon Jul 18, 2011 4:06 pm

Hi

Brand new here. I think Ive read thru all the posts in the General Discussion area. Great info!

I picked up a 73 satellite a couple weeks ago. I was planning to add larger tires and wheels. While crawling under the car to measure the wheel well I noticed that the width of the tire is hindered by the rear spring which sticks out past the inside edge of the wheel well.

The factory wheel wells on this car are huge and I think I can run about 14"( 355) wide rear tire if I relocate the rear springs inward.

I think I can fab a kit but I wanted to see if anyone here has tried this first and get some pointers.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Richie

They make a kit to relocate the springs. I've never installed one, so I can't be of any help there, but here's a link to the kit.

Thanks for the reply and the link. Thats the best price quote Ive seen yet. I did some measuring and it looks like you have to move the springs over about 5.5". Leaves room for about a 14" wide tire.

Im thinking I can fab the locator kit after seeing how simple they are.

I've used the Mopar Performance offset spring hangars and offset shackles on an E body.

They work great if you only need a little more room, and you just have to relocate the spring pads on the axle.

Order your wheels with the correct backspacing, after you move your springs.
