The lower control arms were natural metal. The gold you're seeing is the cosmoline coating. Let me find the pics of mine and it'll show paint used to replicate the cosmoline. The colors on mine aren't accurate, mine is all powder coated (with the exception of the 'cosmoline' paint). I won't complain about the colors not being accurate though cuz I got a screaming deal on getting my whole front end redone at US Car Tool.

Found the pics. You'll see the cosmoline coating replicated in various ways. I don't think everyone is in agreement on how the coating was done. At US Car Tool, they think the bare metal control arms were partially dipped into the cosmoline and therefore show some bare metal. Other guys I've seen have completely "coated" their lower control arms so the whole thing is gold. Maybe it was just a difference in the plants assembling the front ends. Whatever, check out your original parts and replicate what you see there. On mine the "cosmoline" is simply gold paint...

Overall, what is supposed to be bare metal on mine is too DARK. And probably too shiny for "raw metal" too. But like I said, I'm not going to complain about it because I got the powder coating done on mine for FREE.

One other note, the strut rods on mine are an after-market piece and are THICKER than the stock ones...

Well, mine is just gold paint masquerading as cosmoline... but there are probably companys out there offering the original coating, or something similar, like the guy who works with Roger Gibson. What's his name? Frank Baldeson? I know he advertises in MCG...

I had my k-frame sand blasted, primed and sprayed with a flattened chassie black. Here is a shot of my front suspension.

Eastwood for paint. I used their black on my K-frame and then did a cosmoline look alike on my lower arms as well. Iirc I painted them silver first, then did the cosmoline thing.
