Hello,
This is Dale, owner of the White 71 440 4 Speed Moonroof RR. I located 2 71's both very rough in a collectors lot near here. Rumor was that he would not sell or show and after a few calls I accepted this was true. Then out of the blue he did call me back and I looked at them and took photos. Both are RM23 N1G cars. One is White with brown interior and has a racing multi throw automatic shifter. It is missing the fender tag and is a rust bucket. The other is Winchester Grey, column shift and bench seat and might could be restored. It has the tag and Grey interior. Both of them have engines but can not tell if they are original. Both have had aftermarket stuff added to the intake manidold and headers What do you think a fair price for both of these is? I've noticed junkers don't do real good on E-bay.
Also I saw a link to the Craigs listing for the 72 Satellite Sebring in Sanford, NC. Does anyone know anything about this car? I spoke with Mike, the owner and may go look at it. He says he has over 100 cars in his lot, mostly junkers. But he has a web site link to his restoration services and his restored cars.
Dale

I found the ad for the 72 Satellite on Craigslist. It looks pretty good. Might be worth the drive to look at it. If he has so many cars, he may just let it go right. It looks very original right down the wheel covers.
The rough RRs are hard to say. Not as many people in the market for big resto jobs now as there was a couple of years ago. I agree, they don't do too well on ebay at this time. If you got a place to put them and the price is right, you could store them and turn them later or build.
There are three 71-72 Satellites on Criagslist Atlanta right now. One is a white 71 with blue bench interior. It looks real solid, but has a number of dents around it. He wants $4500, and has been unable to sell. Another is a Tan 72 Satellite in south Georgia. Looks really solid too. He wants $3500. There is one north of Atlanta which is light blue. It looks nice as well. He wants $5000. None of these cars are moving though. They've all been readvertised.
Good luck

Re: Found 2 71 RR's near Raleigh
I do not think he will go any lower than $4500.00 on the car. Thats still under NADA. Unless its really bad up close it should be a Medium Value Car. But Collector Car prices are down right now and this area has never supported the NADA values. Just about any car sold in the SouthEast will be 10-25 percent under NADA unless it is a very rare highly optioned car bought by a multi millionaire. Some cars I have seen nearby in my travels through NC are:
1. 74 RR torquoise inside and out 318 auto bench outside Raleigh. Drives and runs good but not worth 6K. Needs body work and interior is crap.
2. 73 Challenger in Nashville, NC. Parked beside house, no garage. Plumb Crazy Purple. Looks like he drives it. This could be a really nice ride with a little $$.
3. 2 Challengers off Hwy 121 near Farmville, NC 1 Red, 1 Yellow. Red one looks nice and an easy restore.
4. Barracuda parked beside mobile home on bank of the Neuse River. Grifton, NC. Bronze, looks like daily driver. Who ows a car worth more than their home?
5. 71-72 Dodge Charger rusting away in field Elm City NC. Looks like a shell.
6. 73 Roadrunner 318 Red. Elm City, NC. Made offer, man not interested in selling. Faded, needs paint. Says he will fix up.
The guy with the RR junkers thinks he has something valuable and after examining them I do not. They are both Mom and Dad RR's. Low option and torn up. Cars like that seem to go for 2K on E-bay.
That seems to be the case of a lot of misinformed car owners like the guy that told me his 73 Silver RR 340 with a huge dent in it was worth 25K. Wonder why Mr. Moneybags doesn't fix the dent?
I realize these are tough economic times everywhere but for for those with a litle cash these are great times to buy. Sort of like buying depressed stocks.

This 73 RR is a good one to restore if you are interested in one. The fellow who is selling is named Frank. He's very nice. I've spoken to him via email. He knows Mopars. This car he was going to restore for his wife.

There are a lot of good buys out there, but a so many people have been tainted by the Barrett Jackson illusion.
I do see a lot of interesting stuff advertised out of N.C.!

I'm going to write the man with the Plumb Crazy Purple '73 Challenger a letter including printed pics of my '71 RoadRunner. That technique has been used by the pros with great success. The last guy invited me to look over his 2 warehouses full of cars and antiques, clocks and toy pedal cars one afternoon and the reason he stated that he invited me was the correct restotation of my car made him feel I would do the same with his.
And we may do some business together. He has a nice '67 Vette Roadster. I love Mopars but have a couple GM collectors as well.
Of course everyone realizes there is an intersection of car value and the sellers price and unless you really want the car badly it makes no sense to go beyond what the car is worth as it is. I think some people think they should charge you what the car could be worth restored, or if it was correct. I usually tell them after looking over it and or driving it in a professional way that I understand that they may feel it is worth a certain ammount or the one I hate..."I have 10k in it so I need 10K out of it" but that the car can never be worth over the book redardles of what they spent on it over the years. I ask them how much my $30,000.00 SUV will be worth including $5000.00 in repair and upkeep bills, $35,000.00?? Of course not, some expense is spent in upkeep and the privelage of owning and driving. Most of therse cars are considered low value cars in the price guide or they wouldn't be in barns or parked behind the house regardless of the sentimental value. I'm not saying all, I'm saying most. So, I usually walk away because the seller thinks he has a more valuable car than he really does and wait.
I also spoke withe a man that owns a '68 Dodge Charger one owner car in Rocky Mount, NC. 318, Green, a little rusty. He's not ready to sell but one day, who knows, he's getting older every day.
I think there's great cars everywhere if you drive the back roads or have connections that tell you where to look.
