Regarding the red 72. We did go look at it today. It is a very clean car.

That being said, it is NOT rust free with all original panels... at least not original to this car.

The cars were packed into the showroom like sardines, and the lighting was poor making inspection difficult. I started feeling around inside the wheel opening and noticed a gap between the outer wheelhouse and the quarter panel. Once we got inside the trunk and got hold of a flashlight, the truth was revealed.

The RH quarter panel has been patched in the top center of the wheel opening. The LH panel has been REPLACED... and not particularly well.

Car looked great from the outside, but the closer investigation in the trunk revealed the panel work. I missed it on first glance due to all the factory sound deadener on the panel, but once I looked under the trunk lip, it was painfully obvious that a donor quarter had been installed. The way they lapped the panel was real sloppy and they tried to cover the mess with seam sealer.

That being said, I almost suspect the owner doesn't know the panel has been replaced. An untrained eye could have easily overlooked the work out of normal line of sight.

The interior is very nice, but the seat backs and lower door panels had obviously been re-dyed.

Overall, still a nice car, but overpriced at $34K. I wouldn't mind bringing it home... but for about $10K less.

I wasn't real impressed with any of the Mopars they had in the showroom. This 72 Road Runner was probably the nicest of the bunch.
