i'm talkin mainly 318 with a 4 barrel, etc. 340 or 360, same difference...what's your performance like? acceleration, speed, as well as mileage? just curious

i don't have details of acceleration, speed, etc...
but i can say my 340 H.P. / 727 / 3,23:1 with suregrip (stock, only TTI-headers and 2600rpm stall-converter) is fast enough to beat in acceleration an A12 69½ roadrunner with 440-6 and 4-speed...
look here... (it was a 1/8mile race without time...) but i was first at finish-line..

Yep, I have THE book for Hi Po Small Block Mopars. It actually gives you about four different buildups for the .318 which achieve different results.
A lot can give you 12's and 13's easily.

Yeah, but the 340's were kind of notorious for being able to run with big blocks, right?gionni wrote:i don't have details of acceleration, speed, etc...

The Germans should know better.
Anyway, you definitely handed that other guy his lunch!

Somebody is smoking something, other than tires.
A STOCK 318 or 340 will never beat out a STOCK 440-6, unless the guys does not know how to drive it, and goes up in smoke. & Hell ya, a 340 can be a big time racer, in race trim. Especially in an A Body. They are great strip machines. Once you put the magic mechanic to it, and some bucks.
We got a stock 71 340 with the 2:73 cruiser open gears. It's slug for drag racing. Too much weight, & not a good set up. But we love it, and its' barely off idle at 55. The AC works good too. They were sold as '71 340's to be "regular Insurance"

of course a stock motor wouldn't do anything...a 318 is a 2 barrell and a 340 is great in an A, but not in a B....i'm talkin bout a port n polished, 4bbl, intake, heads, headers, electronic ignition BAD ASS small block...come on now, if a 350 chevy is considered "performance", a 318 should smoke it with similar treatment (not a 2bbl) the chevy guys always think their cars are tops small or big and they aren't that great...pontiacs are good lookin, but the rest are "meh" and the performance is horrible IMO, but there were a bazillion made and they haven't changed their motor in over 50 years, so there's tons of parts...i'm sure that a decently modded 318 would produce 400 or more HP (just using edelbrock according to them) and because of the lighter weight and fast revving, i bet it would take a stock big block
idk what was done to my motor, or what my rear end gearing is or what was done to my tranny (i have a slip from getting it messed with before i got it), but i was runnin 5 flat 0-60, got it up to around 160 or so (still had a lot of pedal left), with a 440 - i've grown up a lil bit since then
and don't really need all that whenever it is i decide to take it back to (well, almost stock - pry a long way off anyway - i'll pry hafta put an electric motor or solar panels on it by then)

I just watched the vid again and all common sense tells you a small block in a '71 b body should not win over an a12 car specially in an 1/8 mile. Then I don't know much about 6 barrel set-ups feeding 8 cylinders but my experience with mutli carb motorcycles and snowmobiles tells me if all carbs and such are not working together you might be better off with 1 two - barrel carb.
Judging by what craftmanship I have seen on how gionni did his car the best car won.
