I believe the rule of thumb in the trade on that question is “NEVER” reuse a head gasket. I think I would go get another one.

Oil pressure to the heads does not come directly from the oil galleys. Oil to the top end is routed through passages in the camshaft at the #4 journal and bearing. There will be only two points in the rotation of the cam where there will be oil directly routed to the top end, one for each side. As t...

On the more than off chance my memory has failed me on this and you have a bearing without the above mentioned grove, I think I would rotate the crank a couple of revolutions a little bit at a time, driving the pump in-between, to see if you can get any oil to pass. There are passages through the ca...

On a big block Mopar, I believe the number 4 cam bearing has a grove cut into it that provides oil passage to the rocker feeds regardless of the cam position. If this bearing is installed with its holes misaligned with the block, it will block the oil feeds to the heads. I think you will find that o...

I was a bit surprised at the amount of torque that it took to drive a freshly primed oil pump. The ½” drive drill motor almost twisted out of my hands when oil pressure suddenly came up. It shouldn’t be necessary to turn over the motor while priming. I think I would continue to prime until oil ...

What? Access to the firewall bulkhead connector and the forward park lamp circuit described here so far is from the engine compartment. Should the bulkhead disconnect require service itself, it can be unscrewed from the firewall and lowered to the passenger compartment floor. Short of removing the e...

Overlooked that minor detail, the battery feed to the dash harness is in that center connector. If the fuse doesn’t blow after removing the black/yellow wire from the connector would actually indicate a problem in the forward lighting harness and not the dash harness however.

Sounds like you have the correct spool mounts for 73' and up. I believe 72’ was last year for the block type mounts in the b-body’s

Pictured positive cable on that auction is not correct for 72’. Appears to be 68-70 b-body cable where the starter relay is located on the firewall. Here are some that look to be correct; 1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/71-72-MOPAR-Charger-GTX-383-400-440-Battery-Cables_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategor...

Still available from mother Mopar (#2983649 for the shorter (~37 inch) big block application) and the best price I found to boot. I ended up needing the longer (~43 inch) small block cable with the mini starter and headers. Same cables for e-body but not the same as 68-70 b-body with firewall mounte...

Assuming that the 71 wiring is pretty close to the 72 wiring diagram I have, with the rear body harness unplugged(left kick panel) and still blows fuses when parking lamps are switched on, you will need to disconnect the forward body wiring at the bulkhead connector (firewall engine compartment). It...

I’ve done it for my current restoration project. The original rallye harness was in poor shape, cut wires and corroded connectors. I had a beautiful untouched standard dash harness from one of the Satellite donor cars and a few used rallye harness I’ve collected in varying condition. At the same...

Pretty sure, in that time period, all HP or 4bbl engines had orange air cleaners while the 2bbl air cleaners were black. I have never seen anything but an orange lid with a black base for the air grabber air cleaner originally.

Continuing progress on the 72' RR/GTX

Another milestone this week, the car is back on its feet again and under its own power. The drive train, brakes and suspension are pretty much complete. Next it's back to the body work.

It’s my understanding that starting model year 1972 all Chrysler product engines were painted Chrysler Blue, including HP versions. It was not the same turquoise blue from the early sixtys.
