Re: Drag coefficent of our cars

I'd be interested in this also, Mopar Action ran a photo of a bird in the wind tunnel. This was the article about the #71 car that was built.
They identified the car as a Charger!

Re: For the love of the birds....

:) Thanks for expressing what I've felt since finding this forum. I can't imagine the challenges you face getting some of the parts we take for granted! This is another inspiration for us all to work a little harder on our 'birds. Are there any technical or trade schools where you could get the cred...

Re: 1971 Roadrunner with 340 auto

If you like the car, buy it! My memories from the dragstrip in the early 80s are that 383s and 340s are very close, time-wise. A '71 B body when comparably equipped isn't much heavier than an E body. A 2.47 first gear(four speed) with a 3.23 rear, isn't great from a dead stop in an E or B body. I ra...

Re: MSD distributor

Well, assuming they sent you the correct one, compare the length of the shaft to your stock one. Compare the "screwdriver" end on the shaft to your stock one. If these match, take the oil pump drive out of the block, and see if it'll drop in. If it drops in, see if the end fits the slot on your o.p....

Re: 1971 Roadrunner with 340 auto

Hemmings Muscle Car mag. had a blue 340 '72 on the cover a few years ago, good write up. Anyway, I think they quoted performance tests from a vintage Motor Trend for a '71 Charger with 340. I can't put my hands on it right now, but maybe someone's got it handy. I've owned a '72 E body with 340 since...

Re: 440/4 vs 440/6

Great pics of the two types of carbs, the first two shots are of the Holley non-oem style carbs. You'll note each has an accelerator pump, these were designed for mechanical linkage. The last photo shows the Holley oem Chrysler carbs (with the vacuum chambers removed) this sounds like what you're co...

Re: Help With My "New" 71 GTX

Yeah, you can't guess an order number, I'd leave that "unknown" You might get close on the build date by dating other components, or looking at others fender tags for cars from the same plant with VINs close to yours(don't forget Dodges)If you just got the month you could leave the day "unknown". As...

Re: Help With My "New" 71 GTX

I'm sure that I've said this before, but I don't think there's any harm in putting only the stuff you're sure about on the made up tag, fill in the blanks with "unknown" or XXX,or leave it blank. If you're only lacking the scheduled build date and order number, we're only talking about a portion of ...

Re: 1972 Plymouth RR --> HEATER NOT WORKING

Wires through the bulkhead for the ammeter are a common trouble spot on many Mopars with original wiring. Resisitance =heat, melted wires, smoke and flames, etc. The meter probably failed, and the only way to drive the car is to bypass it. Many run a new wire that bypasses the bulkhead connector (us...

Re: 440/4 vs 440/6

Second what Bruce said about the vacuum set-up. Your big concern if someone took off the diaphragm housings is how did they plug the holes? If they drove lead shot into the carbs, or filled them with JB weld, they might not be savable! So bid low if you think you'll have to replace the end carbs. Yo...

Re: 440/4 vs 440/6

I've tried several intakes on my 440, obviously one carb is easier to fool with. Now here's the big but. If you've got the time, and patience to find all the parts, and get the 6 barrel running properly, you'll love it. I've never tried mechanical linkage on mine, so I can't say how that would be. B...

Re: My new ride...

nice car. i thought you just got a white one a few months ago? Yeah, I bought the SE in June... but I kept kicking myself for not holding out for an R/T. Didn't really mean for this to happen, I just "happened" to go by the dealership where I had bought the SE and this one was sitting there, pretty...
