Re: Radio Antenna

Sometime after I bought the car I discovered that the previous owner had hidden the antenna in the space behind the plastic splash guard. It was tied to the fender support and the bezel and nut were missing. I can't be certain that the base is original. When it's all assembled on the fender, the ant...

It's been a while since you posted this question. Have you solved your problem yet? I'll have mine out within a couple days.

Re: Best Replacement Quarter Panels?

Having recently put AMD quarters on my GTX, I can comment on that brand only. The fit was OK, with mainly 3 problem areas. 1. Where the window sill curves up and around to blend into the roof rail both were quite a bit too deep (wide, thick, however you want to call it). Had to cut a long vee into i...

Re: turn signal issue

There are two places where the hi-beam circuit and turn signal circuits come into proximity with each other. In the forward lighting harness and the dash harness. You seem to have a cross-connection between the hi-beam and left signal that shouldn't exist. Unless some wiring got displaced, I'd be lo...

Re: turn signal issue

Two harnesses coming from the column. One is the turn signal/hazard light combo switch. The other is the ignition switch. Don't recall which one carries the horn circuit. Your situation is strange since the headlight circuits don't go into the column. I'll look at the wiring diagrams in the morning ...

Turning Root Beer Into Lemonade

GTX arrives home 002 reduced.jpg After 20 months of body work in my garage, and a month or so in the community college body shop, my formerly Autumn Bronze '71 GTX has morphed into Lemon Twist. It's a numbers matching, 440 with auto, but without fender tag or broadcast sheets, and was hacked on a b...

Re: 71 GTX

Yes, GTXs were built with clocks or tachs. Could be had with either, not both. A/C was optional, not standard. Poke around this site to find publications about 1971 Plymouths that will give you info on what was standard equipment on a GTX or other models. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/library....

Look at this for the black

The dark silver is more of a challenge. Might have to be custom mixed. I haven't found it yet ready made. I thought I had seen one called dark argent charcoal, but now can't find it.

71 GTX Rocker Molding Attachment

Here I go again with the rocker molding questions. I'm very close to the point of wanting to put mine on. The body work is done, the car is painted. I'm about to start reassembly. (fodder for a separate post soon) Can anyone enlighten me on how these were attached at the factory? The moldings I foun...

Re: Torsion Bars

What is it you want to achieve? I'm pretty happy with mine. It rides better than my 2003 Grand Marquis. Doesn't dip that bad in a corner. However, I don't expect it to corner like a spots car. If yours have a lot of rough road miles, you may just need to replace them.
