Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
Now to remove the tape from the topside and get started on the underside. June 11th (17).jpg When I drilled the topside holes I went all the way thru the ribbing on the underside. Then I used a step drill to get the hole big enough for the flanged nuts to go thru. June 11th (18).jpg For the reinforc...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
Next - I held the wing in place and had my assistant (wife) draw around the stud holes. That would be the final location for the holes. June 11th (10).jpg Then say a prayer and get out the drill. Starting with a very small starter hole, then move up in sizes. The final hole size is 5/16". Now put th...

Next step - get some tape on the trunk lid and start to lay out where the holes will be. June 11th (5).jpg Next verify the locations by putting the wing on to see if my measurements were correct. June 11th (6).jpg June 11th (7).jpg Just a couple of photos to see how it will look. June 11th (8).jpg J...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
Thanks Scott, Yes, my list of things to do on the car is getting a little shorter. Yesterday was the nerve racking day to drill holes in the trunk lid for the gull wing. But first I had to put the wing together. The first hiccup - the adjustment plate and the hole in the pedestal were slightly off. ...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
So, I put some putty on the wing tips and ground down the heads of the countersunk screws and reinforcement plates and sprayed some primer. May 28th (1).jpg May 28th (2).jpg May 28th (3).jpg My new pedestals came in from Dantes, but were a little too shiny, so I scuffed them down and painted them an...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
I did some horse trading and managed to get a gull wing. May 22nd (5).jpg But, the mounting brackets are broken. May 22nd (8).jpg Probably due to the fact the mounting surface was not flat...you can see the reinforcement plates and the screw heads are not flush. May 22nd (6).jpg I've got new pedesta...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
Thanks 73X - I'm liking it more & more every time I see it. So I finally was able to get the tailstock on my 4 speed changed. If you remember the shifter box mounting holes were damaged when I bought the 4 speed. Feb 26th (4).jpg And I was able to find a good replacement tailstock. Feb 23rd (3).jpg ...

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
Finally I was able to put the rain gutter trim back on the car.
Problem with a white car is that stainless trim doesn't pop out as much compared to if it was painted a darker color.

Re: Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!)
I also got around to applying actual cosmoline coating to the control arms just to bring back some of the amber color.
This stuff goes on wet and dries to a dry type of wax finish.
