Re: Steering Column Conversion

I made my own steering shaft removal tool. Looks a little different from the one in the FSM, but does the job. Basically a specialized wheel puller. You'd need access to a machine shop to make one. They tell you not to bang the pin out because it may, and probably will damage the bearings. If you ca...

Re: Who Uses What to Contain Rust?

Not to be argumentative, but I'd have to take exception. The only benefit to eliminating existing rust (other than cosmetics) is that it can harbor a slight amount of moisture, even when dry. Products such as POR-15 are intended to create a barrier that neither air nor moisture can penetrate. Thus, ...

Re: Please help with identification

The sort of "T" shaped area (sideways in the pick) looks like it is raised. That would be incorrect. Otherwise, it looks about right. Maybe it's been customized or otherwise altered, or maybe some kind of paint effect? Ask the seller some questions.

Who Uses What to Contain Rust?

Just wondering what people are using to arrest and seal any rusty areas which are not being cut out and replaced for whatever reason. I've been working on the undercarriage, wheel wells, and other "non-visible" areas. My approach has been: 1. Sand/wire-wheel/scrape off loose rust scale. 2. Treat wit...

Re: 71 A/C Heater Box

As I read the service manual, if your controls have a "vent" position, you have "stratoventilation", which appears to be an option separate from A/C. Without A/C, it is definitely an option. Stratoventilation has an actuator to route un-heated and un-cooled air to the dash registers. It sounds like ...

Re: Replacement radiator

Observations from a retired manufacturing engineer in the F0RD/Visteon/ACH radiator area for 24 years... In general, aluminum radiators are more durable and much more corrosion resistant as made or used by the OEM. It is dependant upon thickness of aluminum, choice of alloys, and quality of the asse...

Re: Haggertys

The Redbook of Mopar Musclecars confirms this. Three other reference books I have make no mention either way. They tend to treat anything after 1971 as barely deserving any mention because of the lowering of engine performance to meet emissions standards.

Re: In light of my recent discover

The 71-74 Plymouth B-bodies in general don't fall into the investment grade category because not all that many people want to own them - at least up to this point in time. That said, as another generality, unmodified, numbers matching cars hold the highest value. Next would be unmodified with "corre...

B5 Blue - PPG Ditzler # 2627. Renamed Lucerne Blue Poly on the paint chart. I guess colors look better if you keep renaming them every couple of years.

Re: 72 Rally dash Speedometer problem

If you are certain the cable is good and correctly attached on both ends, then the possibilities are defective speedometer or problem with the speedometer drive gear in the transmission. In the A727, there is a little dial to set the correct gear mesh. If that's not right, it can damage the gear. se...

NOT SURE WHY THIS POSTED WHILE I WAS STILL TYPING.............DUH I'd suggest you subscribe to Mopar Muscle and / or Mopar Action magazines. Lots of purveyors of suspension systems and many other goodies for new and classic Mopars. Some good "how to" articles from time to time as well. For my 2 cent...

Re: New here

NOT SURE WHY THIS POSTED WHILE I WAS STILL TYPING............. A word about 727 mods. It's very popular to add a "shift kit" to stiffen up the shifts. However, the shift point calibration, which is custom to each trans based on the engine power, rear end gearing, and car weight, goes right out the w...

Try exploring this site. This link goes to the library of Mopar literature of the day, but there's lots more to see here. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/library.shtml Look at the dealership data book for 1973 Satellite for starters Click on 1970-1974, then on Plymouth logo in 1973 in the dealer...

Re: 71 Road Runner amp gauge conversion (rallye Dash)

I agree with the modification of bypassing the bulkhead disconnect, and did the same thing that they describe. I don't agree with their statement that the ammeter is the main means of power distribution, and they actually sort of refuted their own statement when they drew the circuit correctly, show...
