If you save or open the pic in a new window, you can see the conventional front bumper sticking out on the side. Looks like a customized 73 or 74 to me. Could be a 71 with a 73/74 front clip also - that would explain the claim of it being a 71. Looking again, the 71/72 raised body line is not there....

Thanks for the replies everyone. Now that I have my SSP stripped down to the shell, I have noticed all sorts of numbers stamped in various panels and brackets. I am guessing these are internal factory numbers for assembly purposes, and not actual part numbers. Just a guess.

Just wondering how you tell a real deal 1972 rear valance with cut-outs from one that someone just modified. Do the real cutouts have a lip on them or something? If the fender tag doesnt show up - you have a blank slate. Find the list of options for your car and order up your favorites! Make it like you want it. Good luck with whatever you decide! Scott.

Look on both sides of the engine block. One side will have the casting number on it, a seven digit number - sometimes with some additional numbers. The other side will have a date on it.
