Re: 1971 SSP Project

Ah, yes - the Dutchman......... The factory quarter was sandwiched between the dutchman and the trunk gutter at the back and the dutchman and the window flange at the front. Unless you want to split both of those joints so you can get the new quarter in between, you'll have to do like I did and trim...

Re: 1971 SSP Project

I stand corrected - the only model that had belt moldings standard was the GTX. Otherwise, they were included with a full vinyl roof, and were optional on most of the Satellite line, just not on base 2-door or base 4-door. This info from the dealer's guide, courtesy of the Hamtramck-Historical websi...

Re: 1971 SSP Project

It appears that if the car had a canopy style vinyl top, the belt moldings were not included. I have pics of a survivor car I nearly bought that was built this way. They appear to be included on full vinyl top cars. Possibly there was a delete option.

Re: 1971 SSP Project

TO 71beeper: I have taken a lot of pix of the quarter panel tear-off and am still snapping away as I fit the new panel. Not sure what you want pix of. Probably the biggest decision you'll have to make (assuming you don't have big fitup issues) is whether you're going to put 100% of the new quarters ...

Re: 1971 SSP Project

Thanks. I had to cut and reform the top of the quarter at the window seam. There was too much metal there. My fitup was pretty good in that area. At the trunk gutter I cut a 1/16 out of the step flange, that allowed the panel to sit lower and match to the deck lid. I had a similar issue there. The p...

Re: 1971 SSP Project

Just what I wanted to hear.

Can you be more specific about where/what you had to alter? Was it the quarter or the car? Any pix of what you changed?

Re: 1971 SSP Project

It looks as though you replaced entire quarter panels. If so, I'm curious as to what brand you used and what type of fitment issues you may have had to solve. I'm in the middle of trying to fit a new AMD right quarter on my 71. It's sitting about 1/4" too far forward at the top of the door opening b...

Re: '71 GTX rocker moldings - painted??

If you don't mind saying, how much is he asking? Four years ago I spotted a pair on ebay asking $900 OBO. I offered $500 and he jumped on it. They had paint overspray, and one needs to be straightened a bit. All in all, not too bad. These are hard to come by, so I'd say if the price isn't too high a...

Re: '71 GTX rocker moldings - painted??

I believe the paint is Chrysler's Argent Silver. I scored a pair of these on ebay 4 years ago, but have not really done much with them. Have to get the bodywork and paint done. The ribs are solid rather than hollow, and the valleys in between might be about .050" thick. The long edges are rolled aro...

Re: '71 Super Track Pack rear sway bar?

Duh, I suppose that's why it isn't mentioned at all.

I have one, but the previous owner had a 1969 "742" differential put in. Not sure if that would mean the entire rear axel as well. In my case, probably, because the brake components were all wrong for a 71 also. Hmmmm.

Re: '71 Super Track Pack rear sway bar?

As best I can decipher the available documents - the Satellite Dealer Guide, Satellite Salesman's Pocket Guide, and the Plymouth Engineering Specs, the answer is PROBABLY. They don't come right out and say it that I could find, but it seems to be implied, and it is not listed as an option. Are you f...

Re: Finally Taking The Plunge

Work has begun in earnest to prepare to replace the passenger side quarter panel and rocker panel, and make a repair to the door frame. I've been accumulating tools and knowledge on how to get his thing apart. Recently completed an Applied Auto Body Welding class at the local community college. Betw...

Re: WIW 71 Roadrunner 440-6 4-spd

$115,000 is impressive. I've seen V code E bodies go for less. It does seem that sometimes cars out of some noteworthy collection do better than normal, as do cars associated with a celebrity. This one must be in one of the episodes on my DVR I haven't seen yet. With winter here, I can get caught up.

Re: WIW 71 Roadrunner 440-6 4-spd

Very difficult to put a value on the 71 RR and GTX. It seems that people like us who have them want to hang on to them, so you don't see many that are in good condition on the market. I watch a lot of auctions and hardly ever see them. I don't think I've seen one go for more than about $35,000 since...
