Re: Help With 71-72 Hood Insert Attachment
Thanks. I bought a second set of inserts from Tony's Parts. There was a rusted away remnant of one of those left. The nut was gone. First time buying from Tony's. Not happy with their honesty. The inserts were described as very nice condition on the finish side. They were not, One looked like somebo...

Help With 71-72 Hood Insert Attachment
Hey, all. I've been away from the nest for a few months - got used to it being down back in January or so. The good news is I'm nearing the end of my exterior restoration work. Just have to prime the marker bezels, the hood inserts and the mirrors, then yank the engine, scuff the engine compartment,...

Re: heater core/radiator questions
I was a manufacturing engineer for one of the big 3 (the one with four letters) for 24 years, in the aluminum heater core and radiator department, so I have some knowledge of these systems. The Chrysler parts catalog does show different part numbers for A/C vs. non-A/C. It is possible, maybe even li...

71 Performance Hood Inserts
These things appear to have 5 total fasteners each. Closer to the hood centerline, looks like 3 studs - probably 10-24 thread - sticking thru the hood sheet metal with nuts and washers. The outer fasteners I can't make out. Looks like some kind of plastic nut with a slot thru it. But I can't see any...

Why Was The Nest Down For A Few Days?
Second time in a couple months. Can one of our admins shed some light on what's going on?

Re: 1971 SSP Project
That looks like it's already been replaced. All those tack welds aren't factory. The original flange was spot welded. Here's mine as I was peeling it off the door jam one weld at a time. First used a cutoff wheel right on the corner to get the quarter skin out of the way. Then you can see all the we...

Re: 1971 SSP Project
This is what I'm struggling with - not that it matters now on the passenger side. But when I start on the other side........ See the attached pics - what I'm thinking is that the area I call "interior" boxed structure which is hidden by the quarter, is actually part of the rocker skin / outer rocker...

Re: 1971 SSP Project
to farmboy70: Wondering if you did anything with the outer rockers when you had the quarters off, and if you have any pix of the area under the B-pillar with the quarter and the rocker skin off the car. I butchered mine a bit cutting the rocker skin off, not knowing how that area was constructed. I'...

Paint is good for one at a time, but you can't do 20 or 30 all at once.

Re: My car resto
After you play with it a bit, you'll get the hang of it, whatever you use. I'm not sure how much picture posting the Nest can handle each month in terms of data "bandwidth". I posed that question to the administrators in a post a couple months ago, but got no answer. I have a gazillion pix of the wo...

Re: My car resto
what I do is: 1. Put all the pix you want to resize in one folder. 2. Inside that folder, create a new folder and name it "reduced" or "Resized" or somesuch. 3. When you batch resize all the photos in the folder for 1. above, use the "Reduced" folder as the destination folder. Click on "use this dir...

Re: My car resto
The limit is 1024 pixels wide and/or 768 pixels high. If either is over, you'll get a message from this site stating this, and the actual size of the pic you're trying to attach when you click on "Add The File"

I use a freeware program called Irfanview aka I-view, which is a picture manipulation program. It's crashproof and does not worm its way into Windows. http://www.irfanview.com/ You can download and install it from their site. If you choose to do this, when you run the program, one of the main menu i...

Re: ideal tires for 15s
You do need to give some consideration to the width of the wheels, as well as the backspacing (or offset) if you're using something other than OEM size wheels. Particularly if you plan on using wide tires. The wheel width has some influence on the width of any given tire at the sidewall, and may mak...
