my car was originally Sherwood Green (now Teal) and strangely, the only other '71+ GTX I remember ever seeing was also dark green.
The original color is nice in a subdued elegance way but imo these cars are "out there" and should have flashier paint

'71 GTX - Ralley dash and 741 stock?
I dont have the build sheet for my car and am wondering if its possible it came stock with a Ralley dash and 741 third member? At the moment it does not have a Ralley dash which I find unusual that a supposedly high performance car would not come with a tac It does have a 741 3:55 posi which apparen...

Header recommendations?
I've got a '71 GTX 440 with "Hooker Competition" 1 7/8ths headers and they are hitting in spots. The drivers side is resting on the power steering box. Someones tried to hammer it out a while back but the muffler shop doesn't wanna touch it now as they are worried they will punch through the header ...

Ya, its a 741. Apparently they put them in "A" bodies. Now I'm worried its going to blow if I stomp on it.landon1 wrote:they made a 741? i've only heard of 742 and 489.

Re: Need help with engine numbers matching
Thanks Dave, I'm concerned a wire wheel will wear down the stamping, thats why i wanted to use a solvent of some kind.
Great site, I hope I will be able to contribute at some point instead of being a black hole of B-body knowledge.

Re: No Dash or Running lights
I have this problem also. Someone also installed a cd player inside the glove box so I'm suspicious of them taking the power from the cigar lighter. I dont have a service manual for the car. Could anyone tell me where to find the fuse box that would hold the cigar lighter one?
Cheers

Re: Need help with engine numbers matching
I typed my message while I was tired and wasnt clear. Is there a way to bring out the stamped numbers that are coated in paint on the engine block by the oil pan? Paint thinner doesn't work, how bout brake fluid?? Does it make sense that on the engine block the casting date isJuly 23/1970 (the car w...

Need help with engine numbers matching
I just got my '71 GTX home and the guy I bought it from couldnt' tell me whether it had an 8 3/4 or Dana so he wasn't much help to say the least. So I think I've done what homework I can and have hit a wall. Here's what I know so far: The door jam decal says the car was built in Sept 1970 The block ...
