Re: New guy has pics of 71 GTX
Try manual drums, manual steering, and a four speed... while holding a big gulp.Eric wrote:My first road runwas a manual drum car....I had some scary moments getting that car stopped
My GY3 GTX was a bitch. Had to plan your navigation through a low speed turn well in advance.

Re: New guy has pics of 71 GTX
To me, that's a very cool color combo. I would prefer cloth seats over vinyl any day....for the comfort factor if nothing else and blue interiors are sweet. We all know how those black vinyl seats feel in the middle of 90 deg summer weather. The all white body color combined with the V21 black hood...

Re: New guy has pics of 71 GTX
The "catch" simply is that is a color combination that lacks mass appeal. That blue interior scares off a lot of potential buyers. Coupled with the white exterior, air conditioning and bench seat, appearance-wise, it's more of a grandma car than muscle car. Not intended to be a knock on the car, jus...

Re: New guy has pics of 71 GTX
Which interior code is that? P3B5 (Split bench)? Or P5B5 (bucket)? Here is a link to the 71 trim selector: http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1971ColorAndTrimPlymouth-04.shtml http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1971/71_Satellite0004_tn.jpg http://www.ham...

Re: 1971 GTX St. Louis Production
That number might reflect a specific configuration, but it's certainly not representative of all st louis gtx production.
Welcome aboard by the way.

Re: 1971 GTX St. Louis Production
I don't know the plant by plant breakdown, but I doubt that number is correct. I've owned two St. Louis built 71 GTXs, one of which was a four speed curious yellow export car. Both were U code 440s. I don't have the fender tag info for either one handy, but I'll check later. Where did you get your i...

Re: Yesterday at the pump
I have nothing against hybrids. It’s great technology. It saves fuel. If you can make an economic justification for it (without a tax credit), buy one. Heck, my daily drivers are (non-hybrid)four cylinder fuel misers that get me mistaken for a tree hugger on a regular basis. I don’t fault anyone for...

Re: aftermarket intakes with airgrabber
B motor Street Dominator and a 440 base should give you the performance and fit you're looking for.
Once you find an SD (out of production, so you need to hunt down a used on), you'll want to gasket match it. They're notorious for core shift, as are all vintage aftermarket intakes.

Re: Aluminium 4 speed case strength
Those aluminum cases were conceived to run behind slant 6's. Their durability was marginal in that application. The casting is virtually identical to the cast iron, with no compensation for the reduced strength of aluminum. The Passon case is the way to go if you want to drop the weight, but it is a...

Re: aftermarket intakes with airgrabber
I'm just going from memory here based on what I've read in the past. Haven't actually experimented myself. Most dual plane after market intakes for the B-motor are about 3/4 inch taller than stock. The RPM is much taller, as is the Torker, although I don't recall the specific dimension. Won't work w...

I missed the 383 part.
Find an old holley street dominator. TQ should bolt right up.

Re: Thermoquad Intake ?
Look for a 72 or 73 stock 340/360 intake. Pretty much your best bet for a T-quad. Yes, it's heavy, but it's also pretty much hassle free on the choke hook up and no EGR to mess with. I believe the Edelbrock Performer will except a t-quad as well. Couple different model numbers for EGR/non-EGR and po...
