Re: Building a clone 72 Road Runner need info

Eric wrote:Sounds like a cool build. Keep in mind, if you're going for a factory correct clone, painted bumpers were not an option on 72 road runners.
And I believe, no factory ordered spoilers either!
Have fun.

Re: Pics of my 72 for those that haven't seen it

Love seeing this car again! Thanks for the bump.

Pretty funny the writer stating the gas crunch was in '72. If I remember correctly, it was '74.
And besides, this car was obviously ordered, and built in '71!

Oops, showing my age again. :)

Re: Thermoquad Intake ?

I've used a standard performer with a TQ. It will work, but you need a steel plate that Edelbrock sells to fit under the carb to prevent a vacuum leak. Or a very thick, rigid gasket to keep it from blowing out, there just is not much "meat" there to support the gasket when using a spread bore carb. ...

Re: Help with Rad Question

Agreed, driving a few hours for a used rad. unless it's from a good friend, is quite a gamble! The water pump housing was changed (around '73, I think) to put the hose on the opposite side. If you can find one of those closer to home, you can use your small block radiator. In the old days radiator s...

Re: Difference Between 71 and 72 Bucket Seat Covers?

Ok, I've always thought my car had '73 style seats, because of the button type upholstery. But they also have the hard plastic backs like a '72 should. So maybe what I've got are '72 Charger style seats? I'm going to study some Chargers pics and Chargers at the next show I attend. I mean weren't Cha...

Re: Difference Between 71 and 72 Bucket Seat Covers?

Thanks for that too, while my car has had the the engine swapped (for a blue '70 440) The interior looks original, except for the carpet. There's no sign the car was driven since 1984. I'll keep my eyes open for more evidence. And I think the two magazine cars I've seen had black interiors. So maybe...

Re: Difference Between 71 and 72 Bucket Seat Covers?

Thanks Challenger

Maybe I should have mentioned my interior is black, in case color makes a difference.

Could they have run out of '72 black, and switched early?

Re: Difference Between 71 and 72 Bucket Seat Covers?

If you don't mind, I'd like to hi-jack your thread. Does anyone have a '72 that came with the '73 style bucket seats? I've got a late (after June 22) St Louis car that had '73 style front and rear seats. I've seen a few magazine cars with similar seats. Does anyone on the nest with a '72 have the la...

Re: Differential Oil Cooler

I doubt the factory ever offered one. My brother in law engineered one on his road race car with 8" ford. He didn't use a pump, and swore it worked great. I don't have any photos, but can pump him for details if you decide to go that route. I used to drive 60 miles to a drag strip, and install a pin...

Great choice, Bruce.
And the Charger is nice too!
Looks great in black.
We're conducting our own Charger experiment.
Bought an '09 police package back in April.
Passing power is what you might call adequate!!!! :D

Re: Speedometer pinion,opinion

Check and see what's in the trans now. If you're starting from scratch, I'd look for a 32 tooth pinion. If you have a starting point, figure the percentage of error at your desired speed. Then go up or down based on that percentage. More teeth = reads slower Fewer teeth= reads faster Example if you'...

Re: distributor

Agree with all that was said. Mark where the plate that holds everything goes. If you've never done this before, or don't have another dist. for reference It can be confusing. Also, DO NOT try to remove the shaft bushing unless you already have a spare. You will most likely break it! And the new bus...
