Re: 73-74 SUBFRAME CONNECTORS

Happened to talk to Chris at Car Tool today and brought up this question. He confirmed that there are no plans for '73 and '74 B-Body subframe connectors. He also confirmed that the connectors for '71s and '72s will NOT work on '73 and up cars due to the isolated cross members. Afraid it will defin...

Re: Plug Wires Melting!

It's always fun replacing a starter with those big super comps too. Yep, headers plus power steering plus big block plus bad starter equal hours of work  But seriously, I used something called rajah clips? They were sold by Mr. Gasket and were a bootless spark plug end. I think I only had to u...

Re: 3rd & 4th gears backwards!?

You can't assemble the gears wrong.
The counter-shaft gears are made as an assembly.
I can't wait to hear what you find!

Re: rear end swap part 2

I never measured one out of a '65. But the later '72-'93 d series rears are the same width as C bodies. This is wider than your stock rear, you'd give up some outboard tire clearance, and you'd have to relocate the spring perches, and set the pinion angle. Now if the ratio is what you want, and the p...

Re: Part compatability for a 71 RR

Not too hard to fab small patches around the windshield, inner cowl is tougher.
A lot of these repairs will be covered when the car's finished, a very good thing!
I'd make as many as you can.

What he said!
Much easier to deal with than hacking the shelf.
And easier to un-do if you change your mind.

Re: So......I want to add A/C....

A friend had a 440-6 Superbird with a dealer-installed unit! The factory didn't offer AC in 440-6 cars because the air cleaner would hit the ac compressor. I guess he ran the small single air cleaners??? Nope, his 'bird had the stock, big, orange, air cleaner. The dealer added compressor was not th...

Re: So......I want to add A/C....

Ok, I don't know what your goals for the car are. Back in the day all dealers had "hang on" or "dealer installed" A/C units. This would allow A/C installations on cars not ordered with, or not available with air, 440 4speeds,all 6Vs, and Hemis. A friend had a 440-6 Superbird with a dealer-installed ...

Re: rear end swap

The Cordoba rear should be fine width wise. The holes on the spring perches will be too large. You can weld in a washer, or I think one of the suspension companies (FFI maybe?) sells some kind of adapter. Verify the yoke fits your u-joint before you bolt it in. You should be able to mix and match br...

Re: Speedometer pinion,opinion

Hey, since we're talking top gear, which is 1/1 the chart is the same, and for automatics of the same vintage.
Although, since there's slippage with the torque converter, they may need a different size.

Re: rear tire spacing

I don't think this is all that uncommon. Measure both sides of the car, say from the torsion bar crossmember to the front spring hangar. You may get different numbers! If so, this is your difference. You can equalize this, or at least get it closer, by placing shims between the spring hangar and its...

Re: Deep-Sixed Barrel

Sorry to hear about your tuning problems. The unsteady idle makes me wonder if you had tried disconnecting the vacuum advance. Sometimes depending on the distributor,and/or the vacuum port you're using this can contribute to an idle that's a little too low, and when you try to increase it, it goes W...

Re: G60-15 Tires

First, great Cuda! I remember a black,340,72, with L50x15 tires, on slot mags. They only stuck out to the edge of the rear fender, so wasn't raised much, looked tough! Second, I wish I remembered this sooner. The "restricted suspension travel" comment may have referred to a large diameter flat washe...
