Re: Making a spreadbore out of a squarebore manifold

What engine are you running? How much room do you have? It may be easier to machine the phenolic plate down. The material does help keep the fuel cooler. I'm pulling the Thermoquad off the 383 and going with a 650 cfm Thunder. Besides the Thermo being too much carb for the engine, it kept backfiring...

Re: Spark plug wire looms

Thanks guys. That gives me some ideas! The headers are thermal coated. The shop that installed the engine zip tie loomed the wires, but apparently forgot to tighten the spark plugs. The movement got the 6 & 8 in contact with the headers and bingo! I've got a couple of catalogs with looms and may do ...

Spark plug wire looms

My 74 Runner has a '71 383 and Hedman headers on it. I fried one plug wire and damaged another  . Does anyone have a similar set-up or know of a good set of wire looms for the big block? I may look into some type of braided stainless shields if they are available. If someone has a solution, pic...

Re: Making a spreadbore out of a squarebore manifold

"Back in the day", I ran a Holley spreadbore on my 318. My 74 Runner now has a 383 running a Thermoquad. In both cases, I had a square bore manifold and used the 1" thick, spreadbore phenolic adapter. The adapter also helps keep the fuel in the bowls a little cooler and both engines ran fine.

8 3/4 rear end

I put an 8 3/4 rear in the 74 Runner, and when we drained it, the fluid didn't look too good. A friend who is a mechanic and owns a shop said he didn't think that the gears were turning as smooth as they should be. In spring we'll rebuild it and put in a posi right away. Is Year One or Summit a dece...

Re: Trunk Weatherstrip

Thanks Mark! The pics do the job for me!! ps: I was laid up for a while medically, but before that I located my original headlight bezels!! I think I know where I can find the sill plates also. I appreciate everybody's help/input. My 74 now has the Amsoil Z-Rod oil in it. I'll let you know next spri...

Re: 71 road runner chin spoilers

I've been thinking about adding a pair of chin spoilers to my 74 RR, but I keep hearing from the sellers that they won't fit because the front valances are different for 73/74 compared to 71/72. Has anybody tried a set on a 73/74? I'm curious as to how much rework I need to go through to make them f...

Re: Motor Oil for old Muscle

I did some research on the Amsoil brand oils for Phosphorus and Zinc levels. The combined properties are called the ZDDP. The Amsoil ZRod oils have 1320ppm phos. and 1440ppm Zinc. Their 5W-20, 10W-30 and 15W-50 Dominator Racing Oils have 1424ppm phos. and 1575ppm zinc. The oils are formulated in nor...

After Market A/C

Anybody ever install an aftermarket A/C unit in a B-B0dy? Years ago, Hot Rod, or somebody like that installed one in a car. It was basically self contained and didn't use the heater core, etc. Haven't heard anything about it since. I bought the Runner w/o air as I could only afford the 318 back then...

Re: Motor Oil for old Muscle

Amsoil makes 2 viscosities of Z-Rod with zinc that is supposed to be good for the older engines. Won't have a chance to try it for a couple of months, but plan to by the end of summer.

Torsion bars

Anybody swap a big block (383) into a 71-74 RoadRunner that had a small block (318) previously? If so, did you need to go to heavier torsion bars? It seems to be a little "spongy" with the original bars, but I've only got about 100 miles on her so far. Layed up for a couple of months yet, and if I n...

Re: E3 spark plugs

Thanks moparite! I went to the forum and checked out a bunch of the threads. Considering the price of the E3's and that they're Chinese made, I'll stick with Champions!

Re: E3 spark plugs

Contacted Stacey David Gearz, and got response. Said they use them in their personal vehicles as well as their project cars. In season 4 they went to a Universty lab and had them tested. I found the episode, but haven't been able to bring up the test results yet.

Re: E3 spark plugs

Thanks SL74. I'm hoping to hear from somebody that has tried them. Due to medical issues, I won't be able to do anything with the Runner for several months anyway. Maybe I'll end up being the 1st to try them and reporting on them. Worst that can happen is the engine blows and I'll need to put in a d...
