Re: 440 vacuum at idle
Thanks for the input, Elvad. As far as I know the vacuum source I am hooked up to is manifold (the driver's side port on the Eddy carb), at least that's what Edelbrock says. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll double check that, though. I don't plan on keeping the Eddy carb on there forever, though. I have an old...

Re: 440 vacuum at idle
I have tried everything timing from 32 on up to 38 @ 2500 + rpms. I have adjusted the accelerator pump arm (I have an Eddy 800 carb), and that didn't do jack. The accelerator pump squirts the way it should. This carburetor was brand new out of the box when it was first installed and barely driven or...

440 vacuum at idle
I am trying to nail down a backfire problem when I floor it from idle. One of the areas I am currently looking at is maybe a vacuum leak. But how much idle vacuum should I be looking at? I have an Edelbrock Torker II single plain manifold, slightly larger cam (.484 lift), and with all my vacuum hose...

Re: What carbs came on 71' roadrunners?
According to the Factory Service manual for 1971 it states: "The Carter four barrel carburetor models AVS-6125S, AVS-4966S are used on 383 and standard 440 cubic inch engines when the vehicles are equipped with automatic transmissions respectively." "The Carter four barrel models AVS-4967S, AVS-4968...

Re: request for participation
I have been watching this website for a long time, but never got involved with it until now. Finally I have my car back after having it sit at my folk's house for the past nine years while I let Uncle Sam take me around the world. Most input I have will be in the form of questions for now, but as I ...

Re: bullet nose harmonic balancer
Thanks much, landon1. :) That info is a big help, just need to get a decent timing light now. But what about setting total timing?? I hear that is difficult to do without timing tape, or maybe there is another way. In fact the timing tab on my timing cover goes to 20 degrees BTDC. But that space in ...

Re: bullet nose harmonic balancer
Right..... well I first learned of this type of balancer here: http://www.440source.com/dampers.htm. On that web page it was referred to as a bullet nose balancer. Second off, not all 440 cast cranks had tapered or "bullet nosed" type balancers like my motor does. So anyway, does anyone make t...

Re: bullet nose harmonic balancer
I replaced my ignition with an electronic ignition and vacuum advance distributor, so I need to set my timing. My engine isn't modded much. Stock internals, with a hotter cam and valve springs. So my timing will not need to be very radical, just a good performance set up really. Maybe I don't need t...

bullet nose harmonic balancer
I was thinking about getting timing tape so that I can set timing on my 440. But after looking at my harmonic balancer, I noticed that I have one of the bullet nosed balancers used on the later 440's. Considering the timing tape should only sit square on a flat and square surface, I don't see how ti...

Re: Anyone with a canopy top.
I know this is an old thread, but what the heck. I am looking for these vinyl top molding clips as well for my 71. I checked R/T Specialties, but they didn't have the ones that are shown in the above pics. Anyone know where to find these??
