My Satellite Sebring

This is the day after I brought her home, before I started any work on her.

Still sitting a bit low in the rear since the #'s matching block came in the trunk.

The driver's seat is ripped open on the back (there's a cover over it in this pic), a tear on the edge, and the inset in the bottom was replaced at some point.

Dash pad has the typical cracks.  The door panels are PERFECT, as was the broadcast sheet I found in the back seat.

It's your standard 318/2bbl with A/C.  Other than the short block swap, the car is nicely unmolested.

Bumper is in good shape.  Grille is missing just one slat, some slight damage to both fenders, and the lower valance is beat pretty well on either side.

Why can't I find 71 b-bodies where previous owners haven't wiped out the passenger quarter panel?!?

It's really not TOO bad, definately better than the Road Runner.  The door should be useable.  The quarter will take some time and effort to bring back to shape.

I drove the car 275+ miles home with this trunk load of dead weight.  The #'s matching block, and an extra set of 72 318 heads.  Made stopping with the manual drum brakes "exciting" at times.

Afer 8 hours of cleaning and detailing (and unloading the trunk) here's what I wound up with.  Not too bad. for 29 year old paint, eh?

Even the damaged side looks half way presentable.  A nice complete set of matching Plymouth Division poverty caps look much better than the beat up set of 3 mis-matched Dodge caps she came with

Another shot of the good site.  Better quality film on this roll, so the color comes out a bit better.

Backing into a pole will normally leave damage like this.  Cracked the tail light lense as well.  FWIW, this car seems to have come with the Road Runner style tail light lenses (with the black paint on the lense)

This is the "bad" area of the trunk.  A little TLC with a wire brush, primer and paint, and it will be as good as new.

The other half of the trunk.  This is a very solid car.

The engine bay cleaned up nicely.

Behind that really nice back seat was an almost perfect broadcast sheet for this car!

The interior cleaned up really well.  The front seat will need new covers, and I might put new carpet in since the original rug is showing a bit of sun fading.

These slots give it a cool nostalga look.

I really think it makes the car look pretty decent

They even make the rough side of the car look ok.

It's a pretty standard Satellite, having a 318 with a column shifted 904, and a 2.71 open geared 8.25 rear end.  I'm the 4th owner of the Satellite, and for having 120,000+ miles on it, it's really not in too bad of shape.  It had the motor swapped out about 15K miles ago for an 87 Ramcharger 318 short block.  It's still running it's original heads/intake/carb etc.  It came with the #'s matching block, and an extra set of heads.  The body has the typical lower panel rot, but the framerails and floors are in great shape.  The interior really only needs a dash pad, driver's arm rest and a front seat cover.

My plans for it are to drive it this summer to the shows while the Road Runner is still "in process".  Once I get the A/C working again, it will actually be pretty nice.  Long term plans involve rebuilding the tired #'s matching block to a little hotter than stock internals, but retain a 100% stock appearance, so that with body and interior work done, I can have a competitive restored driver in the stock class at most meets.

I made a great find a while back.  Another Amber Sherwood Satellite Sebring in a boneyard in NC.  While pretty rough, it hadn't been picked over too badly, and the compelte dash was still intact, WITH A PERFECT GREEN DASH PAD!  I was really looking for an un-cut instrument cluster (PO had cut mine for an aftermarket stereo).  I bought the complete dash with the uncut cluster, the dash pad, and everything else for $50.  I haven't put the pad in yet (she has to sit outside right now and I don't want to risk the good one), but I have swapped the instrument cluster.

I did find a perfect condition build sheet in the upper part of the back seat.  It's interesting in that it doesn't have all the codes that show up on the fender tag.  I'll have a scan of it online soon.  Until then, here's the codes it shows other than what's on the fender tag:
