1970 Dodge Challenger SE
383/2bbl, A/C, Slap-Stick Auto
Sandpebble beige with white top and tan interior
Owned 1974-1976
The car that started my Mopar addiction. It had 62,000 miles on it when I bought it in 1974 for $1050. With the flat hood and single exhaust it was a bit of a sleeper. More than one 350 Nova or Camaro owner made the mistake of thinking it was a 318! The previous owner had bought it while stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. That's why it had such a pristine, rust-free body. But the Nevada sun had taken its toll on the interior. The door panels were already badly faded and the dash already cracked.

It had a heavy-duty trailer hitch and from time to time I used it to tow homecoming floats (as pictured), a car trailer with one of my dad's Thunderbirds, and a U-Haul trailer loaded with equipment for my buddy's rock and roll band. The car got around!

The very first day the car was registered and licensed in my name I was itching to drive it and show it off. Like ANY typical teenager. So I hopped in and headed to a friend's house. In what was to be an omen for years to come, I received my first speeding ticket on the way to his house!

I ended up selling this Challenger in 1976 to help raise the funds for my college education. I got $1500 for it. But like so many other car addicts this "first car" would haunt me for years to come.
